Christopher Essex Collection
Christopher Essex (April 1945 to 13 September 2006) was a costume designer and decorator whose customers included Tina Turner, Phyllis Diller and Dionne Warwick Australian list.
Essex was born in England but raised in Australia. He began his career by designing screens Mark Foy, the first store in Sydney at that time.
In 1960, he opened his first show, “Camille” in Hong Kong. Camille clients included Nancy Kwan and Bruce Lee.
The first battle with cancer invited Essex to return to Australia. His successful recovery prompted to restore his career designing costumes for stage productions such as Get Happy, Private Lives, Hot Shoe Shuffle and Little Shop of Horrors and the film Strictly Ballroom.
Essex succumbed to a second bout of cancer at age 61. He died at Westmead Private Hospital in Sydney.
