Tackling the extraction/removal of wisdom teeth (Surgery)

A majority of people between 17 and 24 years are starting to get the wisdom tooth. However, in some cases, when the wisdom tooth does not come through the gum can cause a lot of pain, swelling or sores on the gums. The wisdom tooth that is embedded can push a nearby tooth and cause damage to the jaw bone. If the wisdom tooth is coming through the gum, then remove the wheel is a good idea. With a little preparation and proper treatment, you will recover quickly after surgery.


Part 1: Prepare Some Things Before Surgery

  1. Make an appointment with your dentist or dental surgeon. Make sure you schedule a day that allows you to recover after the operation. For example, do it on Thursday or Friday so you can recover the weekend. If you are a woman and you’re on birth control, operation plans after your period and will avoid you develop a dry sockets.
  2. Go to the store the day before. Buy soft food, easy to eat, such as: applesauce, chicken soup, yogurt, canned fruit, gelatin, pudding, cottage cheese style. You should avoid for a while after the operation the things that need to be chewed or client or food very very cold.

Part 2: Take Care After Surgery

  1. Leave the gauze in place of the operation for 30 minutes. Do not try to change the gauze, it disturbs the healing process. Once you’ve taken the first gauze, keep the area clean without the gauze. Do not try often spitting blood when the pressure changes in the mouth are difficult to heal. Instead, use a fresh gauze to absorb the blood.
  2. Use tea bags. If the wounds are still bleeding on a regular basis after 12 hours or more, stop biting the gauze and starts biting wet tea bags. The tannins containing tea leaves help heal and some people, caffeine increases circulation. This process develops the creation of cells that help heal the part where the points and speeds healing and recovery time.
  3. Rinse your mouth with salt water. Mix 1 teaspoon of sea salt with 8 ounces (24 Grs. Approx) with warm water. Put this in your mouth and rinse. Then spit it on the stack or on the toilet. Salt water helps cure and decreases irritation.
  4. Use an ice pack to relieve pain and swelling. Ice can be placed in the cheek and will help to prevent swelling during the first 24 hours.
    • After 24-72 hours, the ice can help relieve pain, but it will not be useful for swelling. If you have an ice pack can use a bag of frozen vegetables.
    • When after a reasonable time, following the advice of your dentist, you can use a heating pad on your cheeks. Naturally swelling reappear if ice post again.
  5. Raise the head. If you’re sleeping on a couch or bed, put 2 or more pillows behind your head to make the mouth remains high. Elevation decreases bleeding.
  6. Keep close utensils. Need water, gauze, painkillers and antibiotics. Keep them close by so you will not have to get up or go to the bathroom to get them.
  7. Do not use drinking straws. The vacuum created in the mouth can make you bleed again and decrease the recovery process.
  8. Do not smoke or drink alcohol. Both can inhibit healing.
  9. Control your pain. You can take painkillers doctor tells you, or ibuprofen to prevent pain, inflammation and swelling. Do not take aspirin, this could cause bleeding and delay recovery.
    • Be sure to take painkillers as soon as you leave the clinic. Take it with a small meal and you avoid nausea and vomiting. Could be a little drowsy from the anesthesia and think you do not need the painkiller. However, when the anesthesia has passed, you may feel a lot of pain.
    • Avoid driving or using heavy machinery at least 24 hours. Anesthesia along with pain can make it dangerous these activities.
    • Talk to your doctor if you experience severe nausea and vomiting. Your doctor may give you a different medication that does not make you feel sick.
  10. Ask for help. Account with your partner, your friends or your family to take care while you recover. Ask them to answer the phone, help you with the household chores, bring you food and make you feel comfortable in the meantime.
